Hi guys, just wanted to say hello and see how you are doing. My business is just finally getting our website going and wanted to put in that we had a team at the Rankin Run. Since Mike touched so many lives and will continue to do so with his foundation, we wanted to make a reference to it and add a link from our website to this one, hopefully drawing more attention to the cause that he felt so dearly about. I hope you are okay with it. If you would prefer that I not include it, please let me know. Thanks, and many thoughts and prayers to you and your family, Shirley

Hey Brian, Terri, Brandon,

I'm thinking about you in these extremely hard few days. I'm so greatful for the life Mike led and how he was an angel to so many of us on this earth. Anybody who hears of his story knows that he was such an awesome guy and there's no doubt in my mind that he got that from his family.

Mike: I miss you, and I know you're having a blast up there with all the other angels, just know that we are doing everything we can to help other kids (and anybody) going through what you did. You were a hero to us, and we are giving everything we can to help your dreams come true. I'm so glad for everything you've done for Mike's Miracles, and there truly is a reason for all this happening to you, your family, and your community. We have all gathered to unite as one to fight this looming disease that has affected each and every one of us. Please continue to keep an eye on your family and all of us as we continue to deal with this extreme loss.

VandenDools,

I hope things go ok this week and that you have the strength to keep on going as you are fighting this extreme sadness. Just know that I, and everybody else part of this site, are here for you and although we don't understand the exact pain you're going through, we are here to lend a shoulder to cry on.

I love you guys,

Ashley

Hello! My name is Nicole Elgersma. I am part of a group in my class called the ''cancer club.'' I go to Calvin Christian School and I want to let you know that you did a good presentation for grade 5 and 6. I liked it when you brought along Joey and Brandon. I think the tigger and the plaque were very nice of you. I know that you love questions so I have some I would like to ask:

1. What kind of cancer did Mike have?

2.What was Mike's favourite colour?

3.What was it like at your house after Mike was gone?

4. What was Mike's favourite sport?

5. What was Mike's favourite subject in school?

6. What was Mike's hobby?

7. Did Mike like animals?

8. What was his personality like?

9. What was Mike's favourite movie?

10. What holiday did Mike like best?

I hope you can answer these questions. I am a very curious girl. Around 3 years ago my Opa had cancer. He got some treatment and got better. Then after a while he got it again. This time it was in his whole body. My siblings and I made cards for him. We couldn't go to the hospital to visit him because we were to young. Only my parents went to visit him. Soon after the Lord went to take him to Heaven. I miss him alot. But every time I think of him I remember he is in Heaven. I am happy that you continued Mike's Miracles.

Love,

Nicole Ally Elgersma

p.s. please email back soon.

Please say hi to your classmates from us!

This is an amazing website, I heard about Mike's Miracles through a friend that attends Beacon and I just wanted to say that you are extremely amazing people for carrying on with what Mike started. He sounds like he was a remarkable boy, and was a fighter. My thoughts are with you and I hope that all goes well with your fundraising.. I will pitch in and run for cancer and help make more people aware of you and your cause.

Good luck!

Hey,

sorry me again I was just wondering if i could use your "Who We Are" page , put it all in my own words and dedicate a song I am singing for my talent show to Mike and his journey and use that as a speech thing, to make everyone more aware? Is not, it's okay I can find something else to use, I just wanted to know, by the way great job with the website :)

Good evening Nicole,

Thank you for being so patient waiting for our reply. We hope your school year is off to a good start. Here are some answers to the questions you had.

1) The type of cancer Mike had was called rhabdomyosarcoma which is a soft tissue cancer.

2) Mike's favourite colour was red. He also liked orange. Most of his clothing was red or orange.

3) Our house felt very lonely and quiet after Mike was gone. He was so full of energy and was always on the go doing something.

4) Mike loved soccer. He played soccer for most of his life since he was 3 years old.

5) Mike's favourite subject in school was gym. He loved to play sports, run around and have fun.

6) Mike didn't really have a favourite hobby. It seems that Mike was too busy having fun with his brother or his friends to do hobbies. Mike did enjoy playing Lego with his brother.

7) Mike liked animals! He had a pet dog named Snickers who we still have today.

8) Mike was a happy, fun boy who loved to keep busy. He was always on the go, having fun. He was a good boy who really cared about others. Mike's nickname was "Tigger" because he was always on the go!

9) Mike's favourite movie was Transformers. This movie came out while Mike was battling cancer. We went to see it 5 times in the theatre with Mike. We would take him out of McMaster Hospital for a quick trip to the movies. When it came out on DVD, we watched it many more times in the hospital.

10) Mike enjoyed all the holidays because it meant he could spend time with his family. (Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and friends) He enjoyed having fun with others.

Nicole, thank you for your questions...they were very good ones!

We miss Mike very much but know that he is now in Heaven with Jesus. We wouldn't be surprised if he was playing soccer with your Opa. We know you miss your Opa very much too. Hopefully we will see you again soon. If you have any more questions, please send them to us. Please let us know when you have received this email.

Sincerely,

Brian, Terri and Brandon VandenDool

Hey Guys! It's Julia :)

I was just looking through all the pictures, and I couldn't help but, laugh, smile, tear up, etc.

Mike was an incredible little boy! He was so blessed to have you guys as his family while he was on earth. Brandon, you are definately the best guy ever! You are funny, loving, awesome, and I'm sure you and Mike had a ball all the time :)

Brian, you are by far the most loving father I have ever met! You are a gentle wonderful guy, and I'm sure you were Mike's hero :) (not to mention a really cool dad!)

Terri, You are the best! I can't even describe you. You are just OUT OF THIS WORLD! The most incredible momma ever! You have such love, and being a mom, that's just totally your thing, and everyone knows it. The way you took care of Mike at the hospital all the time, and juggled everything like a mom does, just takes my breath away. I don't know how you do it Terri. Every time someone says, "Supermom!!!" the only definition I can think of is... Terri VandenDool! Mike couldn't have had a better mom. You are a rock Terri, and I just admire you so much!

You guys are the best, and I can't imagine what you have gone through. I still always think of you guys, and pray for you often. If you ever need anything call me :)

Love you all! God Bless You Guys!

- Julia Schanbacher :)

hey Brian, Terri and Brandon.

I was remembering my stay in Canada, everything I lived with the VandenDools, and how fun it was for me. So I saw necklace (which I really wanted to have since the first time I saw it, and I never stop wearing it, thanks) that uncle Brian gave me the day I left, and I decided to take a look to Mike's miracles webpage. I never got to know Mike, but I know now that he was a great person and he wanted to make a difference. I'm glad I could help you for the Mike's Miracles soccer tournament, and be the supervisor. :) .

It was the best knowing you all, you're a great family.

I wish I had stayed for longer, but I'm sure we'll meet someday and hope we don't lose contact.

I'll never forget you and take care.
